MATHEMATICAL MODEL OF HOT-AIR BALLOON STEADY-STATE VERTICAL FLIGHT PERFORMANCE

Vertical flight performance of Lighter-than-Air free hot-air balloons is derived and discussed. Novel mathematical model using lumped-parameters has been used to balloon dynamics steady-state in particular. Thermal was not treated as the super-heat under control aeronauts/pilots. Buoyancy or gross lift, net effective specific excess lift were for a general single envelope can be applied hot-air, gas hybrid balloons. Rate-of-climb, absolute ceiling, rate-of-descent, maximum rate-of-descent uncontrolled terminal descent have all modeled sample computations performed AX8 AX9 FAI-class Lifting index net/effective computed treating ambient hot air ideal gases at various pressure altitudes representative temperatures. Drag coefficient upward downward vertical flights chosen based on best available data. Experimental scale full-scale tests are suggested more accurate estimates external aerodynamics flights.
